about
Australia's fun loving parent punks, Radio Rejects, are back with their 80s teen movie infused and inspired track
"Shermer, Illinois".
The song written by front man Smith as an ode to spending a big chunk of his years growing up watching 80s teen movies, in particular, John Hughes movies, where the fictional town of "Shermer, Illinois" was always the setting for his films.
The track is filled punchy punk rock, catchy movie references, fun fueled nostalgia and the Rejects trademark 'guitar lead"
that once again leaves its remanence burning in your brain, walking away humming the tune until next time you listen.
lyrics
I was young and i had no direction, just a boy that craved some attention
Your movies too many to mention, they taught me all lifes lessons
Surburban life in chicago, holidays and when to not go
Every family can be a shit show, but dont give up oh no oh-oh-oh
Pre Chorus-
In the end, its just a place, princess, jock, brain, criminal and basketcase
press play, you were there
Ripped tights, denim jackets and permed hair
You paved the road, FOR SOMETHING RAD
How love is love and life just aint that bad
Chorus-
Heres the tale of breaking rules,
killer tunes and love struck fools
Havin money just aint that cool
Steal a car and lets skip school
ITs a place where love cant lose
melted hearts and harsh teen blues
We tip our hats to you John Hughes
Which one will you choose
Verse 2 -
Ferris showed me how to fake sick days, "The club" proved we dont need essays
Duckys love is just another teen phase , Make sure you dont miss the cliches
Crazy parties and big prom night dance , Tell her now, gunna be your last chance
Dont forget your first teen romance , Enjoy the show, uh oh oh oh
